I'm delighted to present the debut issue of BASF's new digital magazine – "BASF e-Mag". Transformed from our decade-long corporate publication "BASF information", BASF e-Mag dives into one topic each issue that is of high relevance to our stakeholders in Greater China. The "e" in e-Mag represents "electronic" of its form and "elements" of its content which is all about chemistry and its fundamental contributions to make the world a better place to live.

In this issue, we put the spotlight on 5G, a technology offering beyond mere speed, but the possibilities to enable revolutionary applications in all aspects of life, from tangible solutions we use, to invisible changes in various industries.
What is the chemistry between BASF and 5G?
Many innovations are enabled by advanced materials, including digital technologies. BASF has been a major chemical supplier in electronics and electrics (E&E) industries. In the 5G era, our advanced materials and solutions will be applied in mobile devices, communication base stations, smart home appliances, autonomous cars and many more to enable their functionalities. We are embracing this golden opportunity for product innovation together with our customers, and it's exciting.
At the same time, BASF is on its digital path transforming our operations at all levels - smart manufacturing, smart supply chain, digitalization in R&D and digital business models - which highly depends on the next generation network and technological breakthroughs. 5G technologies will bring the chemical industry to the next level.
I wish you an enjoyable read – hopefully you will find the "elements" for your next innovation!
Sincerely,
Dr. Stephan Kothrade
President and Chairman Greater China, BASF
